Parent Helps from the 5/17 Sermon on Romans 8:12-17

Parents, we want to give you some guidance when talking through the sermon from this Sunday with your kids. Maybe you can do a recap tonight during your family worship time or during dinner.

Be sure to check out the kids lesson for this Sunday @ goredemptionkids.com. Here are some discussion starter questions to connect what they are learning with the sermon:

  • Preschool
    • Mr. Taylor talked about our sin today. What is something sinful (having an icky heart, a choice that is not pleasing to God; a bad choice) that you have done this week?
    • instead of the bad choice what should you have done?
    • Did you know that God loves us and wants to help us make good choices?
    • What are some good choices you can make this week?
    • Pray together and ask God to help you make good choices this week.
    • Be sure to check out the kids video and lesson for this week at goredemptionkids.com.
  • Elementary
    • Mr. Taylor talked about our sin today. What is something sinful that you have done this week?
    • How should you have acted differently so you would not have made that sinful or bad choice this week?
    • Pharaoh, in today’s children’s lesson, was making some bad choices and not listening to God through Moses. What happened to Pharaoh’s people and country because he would not listen?
    • We also heard about how the Spirit leads us like a guide so we will know the right way and not be lost. When is a time a guide led you and helped you not to be lost?
    • The idea that we are Children of God when we believe and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior came up today. What do you think it means to be a child of God? (Help them by painting a picture that they are children of their parents and what it means as far as care for them now and in the future. Explain that it means that God has a plan of care for believers now and into the future and what that means.)
    • In the opening we mentioned that Jesus, through the great commission, calls us to put our faith into action. What is one way you can put your faith into action this week? (write someone a card, call someone and encourage them, help your brother or sister out of love, etc.)
    • Be sure to check out the kids video and lesson for this week at goredemptionkids.com.

We hope this helps you talk with your kids about worship. We also want to point you to our children’s ministry weekly lessons which are only available on the blog at goredemptionkids.com. Remember the Bible is one big story and it is important for us to learn that whole story!
